Izzy Taylor and Barrington Boy are at the head of affairs in the CCI3*-L after adding nothing across country to their 26.9 leading dressage score. Scone Palace is Izzy’s first long-format event of the season after she broke her leg badly in March.
Izzy stepped this impressive eight-year-old, wo is owned by Johnny Hornby, down a level after finishing runner-up on his four-star debut at Burgham to give him a bit of a breather.
“Barrington Boy did a super round; he really enjoyed himself,” said Izzy. “I had a lovely time, he had a lovely time. The nice thing about a ‘long’ is that they have more thinking time, which is beneficial for him.”
Second and third flip-flopped from the dressage phase, with Emily King’s fault-free clear on Angell’s Choice raising her above Ros Canter on Broadstone Lion Man, who added 1.6 time-faults.
In the CCI1*-intro, Harry Horton climbed to the top of the 94-competitor leaderboard from his dressage fourth with a clear showjumping on JTH Rover. Willa Newton is second on Cortada, just adding 0.4 of a time-fault.
Change was afoot in the CCI-S P2* showjumping as well, with dressage leader Jonty Purcell (FHS Felicity) slipping to second with a rail down. His compatriot from Ireland, Lucy Hope Ryan (Pretty Patterns), jumped up from third to take the lead with the only clear inside the time.
