Team GBR’s Tom McEwen continued his impressive run of form with Brookfield In the Spotlight (George), who scored his sixth win of the year in the CCI2*-L at Scone Palace International Horse Trials. The pair finished on their dressage score of 29.3.

“George has been awesome,” said Tom of the seven-year-old owned by Alison Swinburn and John and Chloe Perry. “I went early in the dressage on Thursday morning and he did a really good test. The two-star test is actually quite tricky and compact for a horse this size. The cross-country yesterday he took it all in his stride, I learnt a lot about him on the hills, and he did a lovely round today.

“When they’re this relaxed it feels easy. He’s been incredible all year.”

Tom came into the reverse-order showjumping phase in second place, putting the pressure on long-time leader Piggy French (Diamond March) with his neat clear. Piggy did have one fence in hand, but when two rails fell early on the course, she did well to salvage third place.

Local rider Wills Oakden was runner-up on Cooley Cormint, who also finished on his dressage score.
