Perth Racecourse Ltd is committed to Fair Work First principles and embedding fair, inclusive and supportive working practices across all areas of its business and event delivery.
The following commitments have been developed with the input of the full team and agreed by management and owners.  

1.    Payment of the Real Living Wage

Perth Racecourse ltd employs 14 members of staff, full time, year-round. In addition to this, it employs 12 casual staff over 12 Racedays and the 4 days of the Scone Palace International Horse Trials event. All staff are paid over the Scottish Living Wage. 
This applies to all employees and casual event staff, with expectation that suppliers align with Fair Work principles wherever possible.

2.    Effective Voice

Perth Racecourse holds weekly staff meetings for the team to meet up and connect, it provides regular one-to-one meetings for employees to meet with their line manager, and annual appraisals are standard. 

Staff are encouraged to contribute ideas and feedback at all levels, supporting a collaborative and inclusive working culture.
Staff feedback is regularly used to inform operational decisions and event delivery improvements. Team strategy days are held to facilitate this. 
In addition, the company has an open door policy whereby all employees have access to the CEO, Brian Stevenson by mobile or direct email.  

3.    Investment in Workforce Development

Perth racecourse Ltd has a proactive approach to training and all staff are encouraged to partake in developing new and existing skills. An annual budget is allocated to allow this to happen seamlessly.

Training includes event operations, compliance, leadership and sector-specific development. This supports both individual career progression and the continued development of skills within the organisation.

4.    No Inappropriate Use of Zero Hours Contracts

Perth Racecourse is committed to the responsible use of zero hour contracts, restricting them to Casual Raceday and Event staff only.  Availability and schedules are agreed in advance, with a trained team of regular workers.

5.    Action to Tackle the Gender Pay Gap and Create a More Diverse and Inclusive Workplace

Perth Racecourse awards salary based on experience and responsibility.  Recruitment and progression are based on merit, with commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

6.    Flexible and Family Friendly Working Practices

Perth Racecourse offers flexible working including work from home, condensed hours and flexi-time to support better work-life balance. Flexible arrangements are tailored to individual needs to assist in supporting staff wellbeing and retention.

7.    Opposing Fire and Rehire Practices

Perth Racecourse is opposed to fire-and-rehire practices and is committed to consultation and fair process in any contractual changes, with a commitment to transparency and employee engagement throughout any change process.
These principles are applied across both the core Perth Racecourse team and the wider workforce supporting Scone Palace International Horse Trials, including casual and event staff.
