When it comes to days out, Scone Palace International Horse Trials really is for everyone. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, and even bring the dog.

The Horse Scotland Village has been created to welcome children of all ages, and from all walks of life, into the world of equine sport. Whether pony-mad experts or complete beginners, we know they’re going to find something they love.

Sonya Campbell Perry, CEO of Horse Scotland, commented. “We're absolutely delighted to be bringing the Horse Scotland Village to Scone Palace International Horse Trials this year. Encouraging children’s interest in horses and ponies is right at the heart of what we do, and there's no better stage for that, than an event of this calibre. We can't wait to welcome families into the Village and share our love of all things to do with The Horse in Scotland.”

So, what can you expect once you're through the door of the Horse Scotland Village marquee?

Start, if you dare, with our Horse Simulator – Finnie – who is in full traffic-cone-unicorn costume this summer in celebration of the Commonwealth Games in Scotland. One of the highlights of Horse Village, and the closest you'll get to riding a real horse without the mud, our advice is to hold on tight! Once you've dismounted, there's plenty more nearby.

For families already bitten by the pony bug, or those wondering how to get started, the Pony Club Chat is not to be missed. Come and find out how to join a Pony Club near you or simply pop by to tell us all about your own. Remember too, to keep an eye out for our gentle therapy ponies, who'll be on hand throughout the event offering calm, comforting company to visitors of all ages. They're a firm favourite across the UK’s equestrian events, so make sure you leave time to say hello.

Like all good horse lovers, we also adore our dogs, and we’ve carved out a special event just for them. All three classes will be judged by Viscount Stormont, a BIG dog lover, on both Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm. Our advice is to get there early for a good spot at ringside. Your four-legged friend deserves an audience, after all.

This year's categories are:

  • Waggiest Tail
  • Best Trick
  • The One the Judge Wants to Take Home

If the pace of the main arena gets a little much, there's also space to take a breather. The Association of British Riding Schools Colouring Area offers calm, creative time out, and it's just a short stroll from the ever-popular Tuck Shop, perfect for a well-earned treat along the way.

Or if you need more active time out – Horse Scotland are great supporters of Active Scotland - then try something new with archery and indoor curling on offer.

It's not just the youngsters who have plenty to look forward to, either.  We're delighted to be welcoming Lucinda Russell and Peter Scudamore as guest speakers on Saturday.

Lucinda made her name as an eventer and show jumper before becoming one of Scotland's most successful racehorse trainers, while Peter is a racing legend in his own right, an eight-time Champion Jockey with 1,678 winners to his name. Their stories are guaranteed to be a highlight for anyone who loves equestrian sport.
Look out too, for more speaker news as they come on board. Follow our socials to stay up date.

From first timers to future eventers, and everyone in between, the Horse Scotland Village is here to welcome every member of the family — two legs or four — and to make sure a good time is had by one and all.

The Horse Scotland Village is free to attend.

Remember: Children under 12 attend the event for free. Children 12 – 16 start from only £12.
